X-Lite 3/Eyebeam 1.5 Soft Phone Setup

Note: this guide is designed for X-Lite 3 and/or Eyebeam 1.5, on Windows. The instructions are very similar for both programs and you should be able to use this guide for either. Please see our X-Lite 4 setup guide if you require instructions for the more recent version of X-Lite.

Notes for Mac users

The following instructions and illustrations refer to the Windows version of the software. We do not recommend X-Lite 3 for the Macintosh operating system as it is an older version of the X-Lite software and can produce loss of audio problems on the Mac OS. If you use a Mac, please use the above link to obtain X-Lite 4 instead.

As of April 2011, Eyebeam is no longer available for the Mac. You may wish to consider Bria for Mac instead. Please see our Soft Phones page for more detail.

Download X-Lite or Eyebeam

The first step is to download the X-Lite or Eyebeam software package. Please choose the appropriate package for your operating system and download the software to your Desktop. Note that you cannot download Eyebeam directly from our site; it is a paid product and you must purchase it from the manufacturer, Counterpath.

Next, double-click on the X-Lite or Eyebeam setup package on your Desktop to start the setup program. Once you have finished installing the software, double-click the X-Lite or Eyebeam icon on your computer to begin configuring it for your VoIP account.

Configuring X-Lite

After you have completed the installation of X-Lite/Eyebeam you will need to run it to start the configuration tool. The first time you launch the software it will automatically launch the 'SIP Accounts' configuration tool. Click on the 'Add' button to add your Eay Office Phone VoIP account. You will need your username and password which you should have received from us when you signed up.



On the Account tab you will need to enter the following information:

Display Name:

Enter your first and last name (Example: John Smith)

Username:

Enter the username you were given when you signed up (Example: myusername-225)

Password:

Enter the password you were given when you signed up (Example: PASS1234)

Authorization Username:

Enter the username you were given when you signed up (Example: myusername-225)

Domain:

Enter the domain sip.enhancedvoip.net

Under the area titled "Domain Proxy," be sure to place a checkmark beside "Register with domain and receive incoming calls." Also under this section, the "Send outbound via" option should be set to "Domain." See the below screenshot for reference.



Next click on the 'Voicemail' tab to configure your voicemail settings.

Residential Customers

Number to dial for checking voicemail: *98

Business Customers

Number to dial for checking voicemail: Enter *98 plus your extension number (Example: Extension 225 would be *98225). See below screenshot.



Next click on the "Topology" tab.

Change the IP Address setting to "Use local IP address" and change STUN Server to "Use specified server:" but leave the text field blank. Ensure that "Enable ICE" is not checked. See below.



Next click on the 'Advanced' tab.

You will now configure your Register Settings. Enter the following values:

Ensure that "Send SIP keep-alives" and "Use rport" are checked. Now click the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button to finish. Your account is now setup.

Configuring your Headset / Audio Properties

X-Lite/Eyebeam supports a number of different audio devices including pc speakers, a microphone, bluetooth headsets and corded headsets. We would not recommend using a regular computer microphone with your pc speakers as feedback and noise will be generated which will degrade the sound quality. Instead choose a good quality USB, bluetooth or an analog headset connected to your computer or laptop.

The first step will be to install the headset using the drivers provided by the manufacturer. If you have not done this yet please close X-Lite/Eyebeam and return to this step when you have installed the headset device. If your headset was already installed before you installed X-Lite/Eyebeam this step will not be required as X-Lite/Eyebeam will have already configured itself to use the headset as the default audio device. Right click anywhere in X-Lite/Eyebeam using your mouse to bring up the configuration menu and select 'Options'.



Click on the devices icon to configure your headset. You will need to choose the audio device you wish to use under the 'Headset' area, which will depend on what audio device you have installed on your computer. When finished close this window by clicking on the 'OK' button.

Making and Receiving Calls

When someone calls you a small window will appear on your monitor indicating the caller id information of the party calling you. To answer the call click on the 'Answer' button. To hang up the call press the red telephone icon on the right side of X-Lite/Eyebeam.

To place an outgoing call simply dial the phone number you wish to call using your keyboard or mouse and click on the green telephone icon on the left side of X-Lite/Eyebeam. To hang up the call press the red telephone icon on the right side of X-Lite/Eyebeam.

Troubleshooting

If you are an Easy Office Phone customer experiencing difficulty setting up the X-Lite software please contact out Technical support department and a representative will be happy to assist you. Please note: our support for X-Lite is strictly limited to customers on our service; we cannot assist you if you are not an Easy Office Phone customer.

Please note that our support is limited to the above steps; if you continue to experience difficulty you will need to consult the manufacturer's Support resources, which include an X-Lite forum and a Frequently Asked Questions page for X-Lite and a Knowledge Base for Eyebeam. Note that Counterpath will not offer phone or e-mail support for X-Lite as it is a free product.
